Mumbai: Tata Cancer Hospital Receives Approval for New 17-Storey Building to Ease Patient Overcrowding

Mumbai, 6th April 2023: Tata Cancer Hospital is set to begin construction of a new 17-storey building, which will be a beacon of hope for cancer patients across India.

The existing hospital in Parel is the country’s first to provide treatment for cancer patients, but with over 450,000 patients visiting each year, space has become limited. The new building will be constructed on a five-acre site opposite the current hospital, with two and a half acres set aside for staff residences and patient accommodation.

The remaining land will be used for the construction of the 580-bed hospital, which will feature 21 surgery theatres, including six for minor surgeries and 15 for major surgeries. The building is expected to cost approximately Rs 800 crore, with funding provided by the Department of Atomic Energy of the Central Government.

The construction is set to start within the next month, with the hospital expected to be operational within the next four years.
