Mumbai: Tata Power Ensures Uninterrupted Electricity Supply Amid Heavy Rains

Mumbai, 29th July 2023: Despite the ongoing heavy rains and waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai, Tata Power has managed to provide uninterrupted electricity to Mumbaikars. Through innovative technology and strategic measures, the city’s power supply remains intact, even in the face of challenging weather conditions.

In anticipation of the monsoon, Tata Power took proactive steps to elevate the height of critical components such as power transformers, switchgears, distribution transformers, and feeder pillars in key locations like Borivali, Dahisar, and Mira-Bhainder. By doing so, these crucial elements remained unaffected by waterlogging, ensuring no power cuts for Tata Power customers connected through direct wires.

The company’s thoughtful approach extended to other vulnerable areas like Kurla, Vileparle, Andheri, Dadar, and Matunga, where high-altitude installations were carefully positioned to safeguard the network’s stability even during heavy rainfall.

A total of 93 feeder pillars and mini pillars were raised in areas like Mira Road, Dahisar, Kurla, Vileparle, Andheri, Dadar, and Matunga. Additionally, 12 consumer sub-stations and one distribution sub-station were elevated to eliminate the risk of waterlogging impacting critical infrastructure.

Employing cutting-edge technologies, Tata Power has integrated sensors to detect water levels and IoT-based LORA for signal generation in SCADA systems, automatic pumping systems, and hygrostat installations. This smart technology enables efficient monitoring and humidity control in substations, resulting in cost savings and enhanced performance.

Sanjay Banga, President of Tata Power Transmission and Distribution, emphasized that providing reliable power to customers remains their top priority. With a customer-centric approach and a resilient network, Tata Power ensures uninterrupted electricity supply, even in the most challenging conditions.
