Mumbai: Tempo Driver Crushed To Death As Speeding Truck Hits Tempo On Mumbai-Goa Highway

Mumbai, 14th September 2023: In a dreadful accident, a tempo driver has died after a speeding truck hailing from Mumbai collided with a tempo near Gandharpale village in Mahad. The accident took place at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, on the Mumbai-Goa highway.

The deceased individual is identified as Vaibhav Rajaram Benkar (32, a resident of Ratnagiri). On September 13, Benkar was going to Mumbai from Goa along with his colleague named Manish Shyamsunder Maske (32, Res. Sangmaeshwar). Suddenly, at Gandharpale village in Mahad taluka, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit a tempo from the front. In this accident, the tempo driver died while his colleague received severe injuries to his body.

After the accident, the truck driver absconded. The bodies of the tempo driver and injured person were taken out by the villagers with the help of highway police and were admitted to the nearby rural hospital in Mahad, where the driver was declared dead upon arrival. In this case, a complaint has been registered against the truck driver, and the Mahad city police are investigating the matter.

Following the restriction on heavy vehicles on these routes in the aftermath of Ganeshotsav, these vehicles operate late at night. Because the Mumbai-Goa highway is still under construction and the direction boards and dangerous turns are not well visible at night, the frequency of accidents on these routes is increasing on a daily basis.
