Mumbai: Three-And-A-Half KG Tumour Removed From Woman’s Stomach At Cama Hospital

Mumbai, 21st February 2023: Doctors managed to remove a tumour lump weighing 3.596 kg from the stomach of a 49-year-old woman who was admitted to Cama Hospital because her stomach was continuously expanding for the last three years and the cost of surgery in a private hospital could not be afforded. The doctors of Cama Hospital did a remarkable job of successfully performing this highly complicated surgery.

Meena Niranjan Kharwa (49), who lives in Mumbai, is handicapped by birth. For the past three years, her stomach had started to grow. Therefore, on 8th February, she was admitted to the hospital for treatment. She was admitted to the hospital under the supervision of a Gynecologist and team leader Dr Tushar Palve. Before being admitted to Kama Hospital, Kharwa consulted a private doctor and underwent tests, like sonography and CT scan. It was found that there was a large tumour on the ovary in her uterus. The possibility of this tumour being cancerous was predicted. Therefore, it is necessary to remove this tumour surgically. But Kharwa could not afford surgery in a private hospital due to poor financial condition. On the advice of an acquaintance, Kharwa was admitted to Cama Hospital on 8th February for treatment. After that, various medical examinations were conducted on her.

After all the tests, the doctors managed to remove the tumour weighing 3.596 kg from her stomach. After examination, no signs of cancer were found in the tumour. The same surgery usually costs more than one and a half lakh rupees in a private hospital. However, the medical superintendent of the hospital informed that this surgery was done free of cost in Cama Hospital.

“The successful surgery performed on Meena Kharwa has put a pillar of honour in the veins of Kama Hospital, which is renowned for women’s obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. This success of our entire team is raising the profile of the hospital and patient care,” said Dr Tushar Palve, Medical Superintendent, Cama Hospital.
