Mumbai: Tragedy Strikes Amidst Ganesh Idol Immersion Celebrations In Mumbai

Juhu, 29th September 2023: Amidst the fervent celebrations of Lord Ganesha’s immersion, a shocking incident brought a sudden halt to the jubilant atmosphere on the shores of Mumbai. Yesterday, a minor boy was swept away by the rain-swollen waves at Juhu Beach around 4:15 PM. The Mumbai Fire Brigade reported this incident yesterday.

Yesterday, as the rain poured down, Mumbai’s beaches were alive with excitement, with many devotees and volunteers participating in the immersion ceremonies. The police were on hand to manage the crowds, ensuring safety during the festivities. Among the throngs was 16-year-old Hassan Yusuf Shaikh, a minor boy who had also come to partake in the celebrations. However, a sudden turn of events led to his tragic demise.

Lifeguards patrolling the beach noticed a distressing sight—a person struggling in the turbulent sea waters. Without hesitation, they sprang into action, pulling the boy from the water. However, Shaikh was injured during the ordeal and was swiftly transported to Cooper Hospital for medical attention. Tragically, Cooper Hospital’s Assistant Medical Officer, Dr. Devidas Walke, declared young Hasan Yusuf Shaikh deceased upon arrival.

Notably, the period from August to October witnessed an increased presence of marine creatures, including the ‘Blue Button Jellyfish’ and ‘Sting Ray’ species of fish, along the Mumbai coastline. In light of this, municipal authorities issued an appeal to citizens to exercise caution and avoid any encounters with these creatures during the immersion process. To address potential fish bite incidents, the municipality had set up a dedicated medical room in the Chowpatty area and deployed 108 ambulances for prompt response.
