Mumbai: Unauthorized Laboratories Flourishing in Maharashtra Raise Alarm

Mumbai, 12th August 2023: Instances of unregistered individuals establishing unauthorized laboratories across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have come to light. Concerns have arisen as these labs conduct various tests, such as blood and urine analyses, without proper expert supervision.

The consequence of this unethical practice has led to erroneous test results and subsequent incorrect medical treatments for patients. Expressing grave concern over these developments, the Maharashtra Paramedical Council has urgently appealed to the Director General of Police to take stringent action against these unauthorized laboratories scattered throughout Mumbai and the entire state.

Across different districts of Maharashtra, unscrupulous individuals have illicitly established paramedical laboratories without obtaining the requisite registration from the Maharashtra Paramedical Council. These unsanctioned laboratories are operating both in rural and urban areas, flagrantly disregarding the necessity of expert guidance during testing procedures. The actions of these private laboratories not only jeopardize the health and well-being of citizens but also exploit them financially.

Shockingly, at certain locations, the names of registered Paramedical Practitioners are falsely displayed on the laboratory’s signage and official stationery. Blood and urine test reports are being issued under their names, even though these practitioners are not physically present or involved in the testing process.

In compliance with council regulations, the presence of a registered professional is mandatory within the laboratory premises. Nevertheless, certain registered individuals have chosen to flout this requirement, compromising the lives of innocent citizens for personal gain. Given the severity of the situation, the Maharashtra Paramedical Council Administrator, Satish Nakshine, has formally petitioned the Director General of Police to take decisive action against both the individuals orchestrating unauthorized paramedical laboratories and the registered professionals who are colluding with them.

Nakshine urges the initiation of legal proceedings under Sections 31 and 32 of the Maharashtra Paramedical Act 2011 against these offenders, emphasizing the urgent need to safeguard patients, the general public, and the government from such fraudulent activities. The formal communication has been dispatched to the concerned authorities for immediate action.
