Mumbai: Youth Arrested In Mumbai For Uploading Offensive Morphed Video Of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj On WhatsApp Status

Santacruz, 9th August 2023: On Tuesday, August 8, a 25-year-old individual named Shahabaz Taslim Khan was apprehended in Mumbai for allegedly posting a morphed and offensive video of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his WhatsApp status. The incident has sparked controversy and concerns over public sentiment.
Residing in Santacruz East, Khan was taken into custody following a complaint filed by 24-year-old Sachin Pathak. Both Khan and Pathak are employed as medical executives at a private company and have known each other since childhood.
According to the complaint reported by Pathak, on Monday afternoon, he saw a WhatsApp status uploaded by Khan. The status reportedly contained a clip taken from the movie “Tanaji: The Unsung Warrior,” wherein Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s portrayal was morphed and also had some derogatory content about him in it. According to the plaintiff, such a message or status can hurt public sentiment and could also create a law and order situation in society.
Accordingly, the police promptly took action and arrested Khan under sections 295(a) and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, both of which pertain to actions that could hurt religious sentiments or reputation, and section 66(c) of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the transmission of offensive material through electronic means.
