Nagpur Violence: Authorities Bulldoze Prime Accused Faheem Khan’s House

Nagpur, 24th March 2025: Protests over the removal of Aurangzeb’s grave turned violent in Nagpur, leading to a major escalation. In response, the Maharashtra government has taken action against Faheem Khan, the prime accused in the violence, by demolishing his house (constructed illegally) with a bulldozer. Khan, alleged to be the mastermind behind the unrest, is currently in police custody.

The violence erupted on March 17, resulting in over 100 arrests, including Faheem Khan, a leader of the minority Democratic Party (MDP). Just days before the clashes, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation had issued a notice to Khan, giving him 24 hours to remove the illegal construction on his property. The demolition was carried out today.

Sources reveal that the house, located in Sanjay Bagh Colony in the Yashodhara Nagar area, is registered in the name of Khan’s wife. The unrest began after rumors spread that a sheet containing religious inscriptions was burned during a protest led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which was demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The clashes led to widespread stone-pelting and arson in several parts of the city, injuring 33 policemen, including three Deputy Commissioner of Police-level officers. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the situation on Saturday, reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring order.
