Navi Mumbai Civic Body Launches Major Demolition Drive Against Illegal Structures

Navi Mumbai, 7th March 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) launched a large-scale demolition drive targeting unauthorized structures across Belapur, Turbhe, Airoli, and Vashi divisions. The action was taken after property owners failed to comply with prior notices issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966.

The demolition efforts were carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with oversight from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr. Bhagwat Doiphode. Officials have warned that similar operations will continue to curb illegal encroachments in the city.

Significant demolitions took place across Navi Mumbai. In the Belapur division, an unauthorized structure at House No. 876/001, Karave Village, Sector 36, owned by Nilesh Mahadev Mhatre and others, was dismantled.

“Despite being served a notice under Section 54 of the MRTP Act, the owners did not take corrective action. A joint effort by NMMC and CIDCO successfully cleared the structure. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve and Junior Engineer Atmaram Kale led the operation with the assistance of 10 laborers and security personnel,” an NMMC official stated.

In the Turbhe division, authorities took down three unauthorized RCC buildings. These included a G+3 structure by Mohammad Shabir at House No. A-2/425, another G+3 building by Hyatullah Maulana at House No. A-2/444, and a G+4 structure by Nandlal Yadav at House No. A-2/116, all located in Sector 21.

Despite receiving notices, construction continued, leading to a demolition operation involving two breakers and a gas cutter. The action was overseen by Assistant Commissioner Prabodhan Mawade and Junior Engineer Vinod Ambre.

In Airoli, unauthorized structures at J-195, J-103, and J-104 in Sector 3 were demolished after property owners failed to comply with official warnings. A partial demolition was carried out on March 6, 2025, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Dr. Ankush Jadhav and Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre. The operation utilized one gas cutter, three breakers, and eight laborers. Additionally, authorities collected Rs 75,000 in fines.

In Vashi, a total of 127 illegal slums located in Sector 30A and the Vashigaon area were cleared from encroached NMMC and CIDCO land. The demolition was led by Assistant Commissioner Alka Mahapurkar and Junior Engineer Mangesh Meher, using laborers and JCB machines.

Municipal authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against unauthorized structures. Residents and businesses have been urged to obtain the necessary approvals to avoid future demolitions and penalties.
