Navi Mumbai: Cylinder Explosion Sparks Devastating Fire in Belapur’s Sector 8B

Navi Mumbai, 23rd April 2024: A distressing incident occurred at Sector 8B of Belapur, where five hutments were engulfed in flames following a cylinder explosion in one of the structures. The event transpired around 10:30 am on Monday at Jai Durgamata Nagar in Sector 8B of CBD Belapur.

The initial blast, stemming from a cooking cylinder in one of the hutments, triggered a fire that swiftly spread to adjacent structures. Fortunately, the residents managed to evacuate to safety, averting further casualties.

Fire officer Purushottam Jadhav recounted the challenges encountered during the firefighting operation. The narrow access road leading to the hutment area coupled with obstructive tree branches impeded the movement of fire-fighting vehicles. To overcome these obstacles, the fire team deployed 12 hoses from the fire van, employing all available resources to contain the blaze.

Amidst the chaos, another gas cylinder within the affected hutment was safely removed, mitigating the risk of further explosions. Regrettably, one resident sustained minor burns, along with the HP gas manager who was present at the scene. Prompt medical attention was provided by NMMC doctors on-site, ensuring swift treatment for the injured.

Despite concerted efforts, the fire consumed all belongings within the hutments, leaving devastation in its wake. However, the timely intervention of the fire brigade, coupled with the resilience of the residents, prevented the situation from escalating into a larger catastrophe.
