Navi Mumbai: MNS Officials Locate Banker Wanted for Defrauding Policemen, Suspect Escapes

Navi Mumbai, 22nd August 2024: A banker who has been evading authorities for several months after defrauding three policemen of Rs 2.31 crore was located on Wednesday by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) officials. Despite the MNS workers notifying the Navi Mumbai control room, the suspect, Ramakant Parida, managed to escape once again.

In April, following a delay of two months, the Nerul police registered a case against Parida and his family for defrauding the officers under the guise of a land transaction. The FIR was filed against Parida, his wife, and their two daughters, but Parida had already gone into hiding.

Sanjay Patil, an MNS office bearer, along with colleagues Sanket Vaskar, Nitin Bhavsar, and Sandesh Surve, spotted Parida at a building in Sanpada village. After confirming his identity, they alerted the police by calling 112. Although the police brought Parida to the Sanpada police station, where he was left unattended on the floor, he managed to flee once more.

Sanpada police officials clarified that Parida was not a suspect in any local cases and was only wanted by the Nerul police. “He was sought by the Nerul police, but no one from there arrived to take him into custody, so he left. Since he was neither arrested nor expected to be arrested by us, it cannot be said that he escaped,” explained a police officer.

The FIR against Parida was filed by constable Sundar Singh Thakur, who alleged that Parida had swindled him of Rs 1.17 crore. Thakur and his colleagues had been introduced to Parida in 2021 and were promised a discounted land deal in Khalapur, which never materialized, leaving the policemen with ongoing loan repayments.

Nerul police officials stated that they were not notified of Parida’s detention by the Sanpada police. “We have been searching for this suspect in various states. If we had been informed promptly, we might have been able to apprehend him,” an officer from Nerul police station noted.
