Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Announces List Of 524 Dangerous Buildings This Year; Urges Immediate Evacuation

Navi Mumbai, 4th July 2023: Two days back, there was an incidence of plaster collapse of the roof of a residential building In Navi Mumbai. After that, the corporation has now become alert and started taking preventive measures on such issues to avoid further mishaps. In response to that, the corporation surveyed the number of dangerous buildings in its area and found that there are approximately 524 dangerous buildings in the Municipality area, out of which 621 residential buildings are deemed unfit for habitation.
Last year, the municipality announced a list of 514 dangerous residential buildings that are not fit anymore. But this year, the number has increased compared to last year. However, it is informed that redevelopment efforts have been initiated by the administration for some of the buildings categorised as extremely hazardous last year.
Given the deteriorating condition of these structures and the imminent threat they pose to residents, the Municipal Corporation has issued an urgent notice to the citizens residing in them, demanding immediate evacuation of these buildings.
Despite multiple warnings, residents have shown reluctance to heed the corporation’s advice, continuing to reside in these perilous buildings. Hence, the officials of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation have taken the assertive stance that if citizens do not evacuate the dangerous buildings within 48 hours, they will be demolished by the municipality without any prior notice.
Prabodhankar Mawde, Assistant Commissioner of the Nerul Division, informed that there are 11 dangerous buildings in the Nerul Division Office area and citizens should evacuate them within 48 hours. Otherwise, the municipality will cut off the electricity, water, and gas supplies to these buildings.
