Navi Mumbai: Municipal Corporation Cracks Down On Unauthorised Structures And Encroachments

Navi Mumbai, 27th October 2023: In its drive to combat unauthorised constructions and encroachments, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s anti-encroachment team recently carried out a targeted operation in the Turbhe and Ghansoli areas. This operation resulted in the dismantling of encroachments created by bars and restaurants in Turbhe, as well as the demolition of an illegal two-story building in the Ghansoli area.
Owners of garages, hotels, bars, and restaurants in Sector 19C along Palm Beach Road, falling under the jurisdiction of the Turbhe Division Office of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, had undertaken unauthorised construction without obtaining the necessary prior approvals. In response, notices were issued for these unauthorised structures under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act of 1966 through the Turbhe Division.
Despite being instructed to remove these unauthorised constructions themselves, the individuals involved persisted in their illicit building activities. Consequently, the Encroachment Department of the Turbhe Division took firm action to completely demolish these illegal structures with the assistance of Poklen machinery.
A substantial penalty of Rs. 72,09,850 has been levied to cover the costs of removing these illegal constructions. Furthermore, near Balaji Apartment in Shankarbuwawadi, at house number 02777, Sahdev Patil and Bhole Sonukumar Gupta, within the jurisdiction of the municipal solid waste department, had constructed the ground floor and second floor. Work was still underway for the third floor.
In light of these constructions commencing without the requisite municipal permissions, a notice was issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act of 1966 through the Solids Department, addressing the issue of unauthorised construction. Despite being directed to rectify these illegal structures themselves, the parties involved persisted, leading to decisive action by the municipality and CIDCO to halt the unauthorised construction activities.
