Navi Mumbai: NNMT Bus Catches Fire Near Nerul, Quick Action By Bus Driver And Traffic Police Averts Disaster

Nerul, 6th October 2023: In a harrowing incident reminiscent of the recent NMMT bus fire in Airoli Sector 8, Nerul narrowly avoided a similar catastrophe on Thursday. Due to the quick actions of the bus driver and the timely assistance of the traffic police, a potential disaster was averted.

The incident unfolded as bus MH 43 BX 0391, plying its route from Juinagar to JNPT on Route No. 34, was making its way under the Nerul Flyover at approximately 8:00 PM. Suddenly, panic ensued as flames erupted from the left front wheel of the bus. As a result, passengers started getting panicked.

Responding with immediate action, bus driver Kiran Phanse brought the vehicle to a halt, preventing what could have been a catastrophic event. Fortunately, the traffic police were at the scene and sprang into action, guiding passengers to safety as they battled the blaze.

With the aid of fire extinguishers, both from the police vehicle and the bus driver, the flames licking the wheel were promptly doused. This collective effort succeeded in preventing further calamities. Subsequently, the bus was moved to the side of the road, and the fire brigade was promptly notified to ensure further safety measures.

Senior Police Inspector Srikant Dharne of Turbhe Division, along with his team comprising Police Constable Pol, Police Constable Bhosale, Police Constable Ghorpade, and Police Kachgunde, played a pivotal role in this emergency response, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
