Navi Mumbai: Opposition Demands Response Over Assault by Bodyguard of Shiv Sena MLA

Navi Mumbai, 12th September 2024: Leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have intensified their criticism of the Mahayuti government, pointing to deteriorating law and order in Maharashtra. Their concerns were highlighted again on Wednesday following the arrest of a 35-year-old man for allegedly attacking another individual with an iron rod in Raigad district. The victim was reportedly sitting in a car with his wife and children at the time of the assault. The opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) has claimed that the arrested person is a bodyguard of Mahendra Thorve, a ruling Shiv Sena MLA from Karjat.

A video shared by the official Shiv Sena (UBT) account on X (formerly Twitter) shows a bodyguard of Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena MLA Mahendra Thorve assaulting a man in broad daylight in Neral. The post criticized the situation, stating, “Gangsters in Maharashtra! MLA Mahendra Thorve’s bodyguard, named ‘Shiva,’ attacked a person on the road in Neral. The victim’s wife and children were distressed, but no one intervened.”

The Shiv Sena (UBT) further remarked, “The law and order situation is in shambles. This isn’t just a problem in Karjat; hooliganism is rampant across the state. We’re waiting for a response on this issue.”

The incident occurred in Neral on Saturday, when the accused, identified as Shivaji Sonavale from Karjat taluka, attacked the man after a dispute over the vehicle’s window. A video of the attack has circulated on social media. Following the incident, a case was registered, and Sonavale was arrested. As of now, no response from the government regarding the incident has been reported.
