Navi Mumbai Police Arrest Two Key Members of Gang Robbing APMC Market Merchants

Navi Mumbai, 23rd March 2024: In a significant achievement, Crime Unit II in Panvel has successfully dismantled a series of criminal operations targeting merchants from the APMC market.

“Through sustained surveillance and investigation, we have apprehended two pivotal members of an inter-state gang operating in Navi Mumbai,” announced a senior police official.

Describing the gang’s tactics, the official revealed that they would trail merchants’ vehicles from the APMC market on motorcycles, stealthily breaking into parked cars to pilfer cash and valuables. With a surge in such incidents, law enforcement escalated their efforts to nab the perpetrators.

Acting on intelligence, the police detained two suspects in Ghansoli on March 19 while they were plotting another illicit activity. Their capture led to the recovery of a vehicle used in the crimes. During interrogation, they divulged the identities of their associates: Santosh Chavan, Vishal Singh, and Aniket alias Lala Chari, all hailing from Bharatpur in Rajasthan.

The apprehended individuals were identified as Ajay Gopal Chouhan, 38, a driver, and Rohan Ashok Kanjar, 24. Additionally, law enforcement retrieved stolen goods valued at Rs. 13.64 lakh from their possession. Further inquiries are underway.
