Planned Water Cut in Mumbai Cancelled Due to Bad Weather, Relief for City and Eastern Suburbs

Mumbai, 28th May 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled the planned water cut scheduled for today due to adverse weather conditions and rainfall forecast. The decision brings major relief to residents across Mumbai and its eastern suburbs who were expected to face disruptions in water supply.

The water cut was originally planned to carry out technical work at the Panjrapur lift station, which supplies water not only to Mumbai but also to the Thane and Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporations. The BMC had intended to make a new pressure control tank at Phase 1 of the Panjrapur lift station operational as part of ongoing upgrades to the water distribution system.

However, with the onset of the monsoon and unpredictable weather, civic officials decided to postpone the work, citing safety and operational difficulties. “Due to inclement weather, it will not be possible to carry out the planned work. Hence, the water cut stands cancelled,” the BMC said in a statement.

Had it gone ahead, the maintenance work would have affected water supply to several areas in the city and its eastern suburbs. Local residents had been preparing for a day of limited access to water, but the cancellation ensures that regular supply will continue as per the daily schedule.

Officials confirmed that a new date for the technical work will be announced later, depending on weather conditions. Until then, the pressure control tank installation remains on hold.

The decision reflects the BMC’s cautious approach to infrastructure upgrades during the monsoon season, prioritizing uninterrupted water access for citizens amid challenging weather.
