Police Raid In Navi Mumbai Leads To Arrest Of Nigerian National With Illegal Drugs Worth Over Rs 25 Lakh

Navi Mumbai, 10th October 2024: Following a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the Taloja area on Tuesday and apprehended a Nigerian national in possession of illegal drugs, according to Navi Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Cell senior police inspector Sandeep Nigde.

Officers confiscated 21.16 grams of mephedrone powder and 106.74 grams of cocaine, with an estimated value of ₹4.23 lakh and ₹21.2 lakh, respectively.

The suspect has been identified as Ifeanyi Christian Iyida. Additionally, the landlord who rented the property to Iyida without verifying his documents and failing to notify the police has also been charged in connection with the case.

An FIR was filed on Wednesday under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Registration of Foreigners Act.

Iyida was presented before a local magistrate, who ordered him to remain in police custody until October 14. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the contraband and the intended recipients of the drugs.
