Police Register Case of Abetment of Suicide in Navi Mumbai After Tragic Incident

Navi Mumbai, February 3, 2024: An incident unfolded in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai, where a 29-year-old man reportedly took his own life, leading to the filing of a complaint by his wife. The wife accused a 31-year-old woman of harassment, alleging that it played a role in her husband’s decision to end his life. Responding to the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused woman under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, about the abetment of suicide.

The victim, a resident of Uran in Navi Mumbai, was found deceased, having hanged himself at the residence of the accused woman on January 13. According to an official from the Uran police station, the complaint alleges that the accused had been pressuring the deceased man to divorce his wife and marry her instead.

Initially treated as an accidental death, the police sent the body for post-mortem to a government hospital. Following the receipt of the autopsy report and considering the complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, the police decided to register a case against the accused woman for alleged abetment of suicide. The investigation will now proceed with a focus on the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death and the role, if any, played by the accused woman in the events leading up to the tragic incident.
