Pune, 16th March 2024: In a significant development aimed at bolstering safety measures in India’s burgeoning ropeway sector, Millennium (MPPL) and Millennian Ropeways and Infra LLP (MRIL) have entered into a cooperation agreement with IMMOOS GmbH of Switzerland for ropeway rescue technology.

Millennium, along with its subsidiary MRIL, boasts a rich legacy of 28 years in the aerial passenger ropeway systems domain. Notably, they have designed, constructed, and operated the Raigad Ropeway since 1996, catering to over 35 lakh passengers without any untoward incidents. Their commitment to safety and comfort aligns with the Make In India initiative, championed by the Modi Government.

On the other hand, IMMOOS GmbH, founded in 1997, is a global leader in aerial ropeway rescue and evacuation technology. The company’s expertise in this domain, coupled with its innovative SS1 cable carriage, has revolutionized cable car and ropeway evacuation procedures, earning accolades from ropeway industry specialists worldwide.

The collaboration between Millennium and IMMOOS comes at a crucial juncture when the Indian government has announced the National Ropeways Development Programme, ‘Parvatmala Pariyojana,’ aiming to develop over 200 ropeway projects in the next five years. With many state governments also embarking on ropeway projects, there is an urgent need to prioritize passenger safety, security, and evacuation systems.

The move gains significance in light of past ropeway accidents, such as the Deoghar ropeway tragedy in 2022, which claimed three lives and left several injured. These incidents prompted the Indian government to mandate mock drills by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administrations for all ropeways across the country.

Against this backdrop, there is an increasing emphasis on deploying the latest technology and equipment for audit, inspection, evacuation, and rescue systems for ropeways in India. Millennium and IMMOOS aim to address this critical need by offering state-of-the-art solutions in ropeway rescue and evacuation technology for existing and upcoming ropeway projects in India.
