Rain Batters Mumbai, Causing Traffic Congestion and Waterlogging

Mumbai, 27th July 2023: The city of Mumbai experienced relentless rain on Thursday, leading to widespread waterlogging in many low-lying areas and resulting in traffic congestion across the city. To assess the situation and review the usual spots of traffic jams, Traffic Police Joint Commissioner Praveen Padwal braved the heavy downpour and personally visited the affected areas.

In particular, Commissioner Praveen Padwal visited the subway connecting Andheri East and West, where traffic is often halted due to waterlogging. Two-wheelers passing through this subway faced significant difficulties, but the police administration provided assistance to citizens to avoid traffic jams.

Heavy rains also caused water accumulation near Borivali station, resulting in localized flooding. Transport services were disrupted at multiple locations, and Kalyan witnessed intense rainfall, leading to flooded railway tracks and streams transforming into rivers.

The Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday (July 26), predicting the possibility of heavy rain. Unfortunately, the prediction proved accurate, leading to the declaration of early holidays for schools and colleges in the city. The administration is actively working to mitigate the situation in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai areas.

The heavy rain also impacted the schedule of local trains, causing delays of 30 to 40 minutes. Passengers faced a massive rush at Thane station around 5 pm on Thursday as a result of the delays.

Mumbai’s residents and authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to cope with the challenges posed by the incessant rain.
