Raj Thackeray Blames Outsiders for Mumbai’s Drainage Woes, Criticizes People’s Representatives

Mumbai, 12th June 2023: In a recent meeting of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) disaster management team on Sunday, Raj Thackeray, the party supremo, again launched a scathing attack on outsiders, this time holding them responsible for Mumbai’s drainage problem. Thackeray expressed his frustration at the disruption caused by an influx of outsiders and criticised the people’s representatives who allegedly support them for electoral gains.

Thackeray asserted, “There are limits to the extent outsiders come to the state and disrupt the existing system. Those who arrive in large numbers construct their huts on the drains, while the people’s representatives who support them for votes are the real culprits behind Mumbai’s drainage flow problem.”

During the meeting, Thackeray expressed his regret that despite the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s consistent efforts to assist the people during times of crisis, voters continue to be swayed by opportunistic politicians. “When the party was founded, our aim was to address the issues that other parties had neglected. That’s why the word ‘Navnirman’ was consciously chosen for the party’s name. It’s also the reason why different branches of the party, along with disaster management teams, were established across the state,” he explained.

Thackeray emphasised that competent emergency systems and management exist worldwide, but it is disheartening that Mumbai’s infrastructure fails to cope with heavy rainfall. He cited the example of Ahmedabad, where they had to invest two days of effort to prepare the cricket ground after the rain. It is for this reason, he stated, that disaster management teams were set up across the state to assist people during critical situations.

During the meeting, Thackeray also held outsiders accountable for the poor condition of the Mithi River, underscoring the need for urgent action to address the environmental challenges plaguing Mumbai.
