Sahaja in second round at Maha Urja Nagpur Open W35 ITF Women’s Championships.

Nagpur, March 6, 2024: Fifth seed Sahaja Yamlapalli continued her consistent performance on the Indian circuit entering the second round of the singles at the W35 Maha Urja Nagpur Open ITF Women’s Championships being organized by the Nagpur District Hard Court Tennis Association(NDHTA) and Maharashtra State Lawn tennis Association (MSLTA) under the auspices of the ITF , AITA and played on the clay courts of the MSLTA Tennis Academy Tennis Complex at Ramnagar

Out of six Indians in action today on Sahaja made it to the second round coming back from loss of the first set to down another Indian Vaidehi Chaudhari 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in a match lasting 1 hour and 46 minutes , Sahaja will now take on Wildcard Sonal Patil in the round of sixteen ensuring an Indian player makes it to the quarter final.

In other matches involving Indians top seed Irina Maria Bara of Romania stopped the run of qualifier Akanksha Nitture 6-1, 6-3;

Russian qualifier Anastasia Zolotareva played consistently to snub an inconsistent Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 . Unseeded Korean Dayeon Back blanked qualifier Anjali Rathi 6-1, 6-1;

In the longest match of the day lasting 2 hours and 13 minutes Japanese Ikumi Yamazaki brought together all her experience to quell the challenge of qualifier Vaishnavi Adkar 3-6, 6-4, 6-3

In upsets of the day Mei Yamaguchi of Japan. Upset third seed and winner of the last week Justina Mikulskyte of Lithuania 7-5, 6-2 . Another Japanese
Ayumi Koshiishi upset fourth seeded Diana Marcinkevica of Latvia 6-4, 7-6(6) to make it to the round of sixteen

Miriana Tona also made it to the quarterfinal in the doubles event as they scraped past scratch pair of Sharmada Balu and Japanese Rinon Okuwaki 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.
