SpiceJet Ramps Up Mumbai Flights as IndiGo Turbulence Leaves Thousands Scrambling for Travel Options

Mumbai, 6th December 2025: With India’s busiest airports witnessing unprecedented passenger chaos due to IndiGo’s sweeping delays and cancellations, SpiceJet has moved swiftly to plug the gaps, rolling out an expanded slate of departures from Mumbai for December 6 in what is being seen as a significant relief measure for stranded travellers.

The airline announced the move on X (formerly known as Twitter), assuring passengers of additional connectivity on several high-demand domestic and international routes. The proactive expansion comes at a time when IndiGo’s operational crisis, triggered by revised DGCA Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL), has left travellers across the country facing long queues, steep fares, and last-minute itinerary collapses.

According to SpiceJet, the boosted schedule from Mumbai covers a wide arc of sectors:

Major Additional Departures from Mumbai on December 6

* Delhi/NCR: 6 extra services
* Rajasthan: 3 Mumbai–Jaipur flights; 1 standalone Mumbai–Udaipur flight at 08:55 (arrival 10:20)
* Tamil Nadu: 3 flights to Chennai
* Uttar Pradesh: 4 enhanced UP-sector links
* West Bengal: Mumbai–Kolkata and Mumbai–Bagdogra among 3 added connections
* Karnataka: 2 Mumbai–Bengaluru flights
* Kerala: 1 Mumbai–Calicut service
* Goa: 1 late-evening/night departure
* Bihar: 3 flights, including Mumbai–Patna, Mumbai–Darbhanga (via Gorakhpur), and a Mumbai–Bagdogra link supporting North Bengal and Bihar commuters
* Gujarat: 1 Mumbai–Ahmedabad evening flight
* International: 2 Mumbai–Dubai additions

On Friday, SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said the airline plans to operate 100 additional flights in the coming days to support passengers affected by the ongoing nationwide aviation turbulence. Calling the situation “extremely unfortunate,” he stressed the company’s commitment to easing travel pressures wherever possible.

As IndiGo continues to grapple with widespread cancellations due to crew-rostering constraints under the new FDTL norms, SpiceJet’s expanded Mumbai operations have positioned the carrier as an important fallback option for thousands of travellers seeking last-minute alternatives.

For now, the airline’s rapid response has brought some much-needed predictability to passengers navigating India’s ongoing aviation gridlock.
