Suspect Confesses in Navi Mumbai: Arrest Made in Connection to Hinjawadi Hotel Shooting

Navi Mumbai/Hinjawadi, 29th January 2024: An incident transpired on Saturday night (27th January) in a hotel near Laxmi Chowk Hinjawadi, as 26-year-old software engineer Vandana Dwivedi was found dead in her hotel room. The discovery was made around 9.50 pm, revealing that Vandana had suffered two gunshot wounds to the head, along with one each in the abdomen and chest.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Rishabh Nigam, 27, was apprehended by Navi Mumbai police on Sunday morning. In a disturbing revelation, Rishabh confessed to the crime during interrogation, citing a 12-year-long relationship with Vandana and expressing feelings of neglect as the motive behind the tragic act.
CCTV footage obtained from the hotel captured Rishabh leaving the crime scene alone at 9.50 pm on Saturday. Subsequently, he reportedly hired a cab to Mumbai, managing to escape unnoticed. Notably, there were no reports of gunshots from hotel employees, guests, or residents in the vicinity, possibly obscured by loud celebrations related to the Maratha quota agitation taking place on the streets at the same time.
Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind Vandana’s untimely demise. Preliminary findings suggest that Rishabh’s actions were driven by perceived neglect in their decade-long relationship. The tragic incident has left friends, family, and the community in shock as they grapple with the unexpected loss of a promising young professional.
Mumbai and Pune Police both are investigating the matter further as they are working to unravel the complexities surrounding the relationship between Vandana and Rishabh, seeking to understand the events leading up to the fatal confrontation.
