Technical Glitch at Nerul Station Disrupts Harbour and Trans-Harbour Local Services

Mumbai, 10th June 2025: Rail passengers faced major inconvenience on Tuesday morning as train services on Mumbai’s Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines were disrupted due to a technical fault near Nerul railway station. The snag occurred around 8:03 AM, leading to delays, diversions, and temporary suspension of local train services.

Key railway stations including Thane, Airoli, and Turbhe witnessed a heavy rush of stranded commuters. Services towards Panvel and CSMT were hit, with local trains running late by 40 to 45 minutes even after the fault was rectified at 8:47 AM. Several down local trains on the Harbour line were suspended, while others were diverted from Vashi, adding to the chaos.

The disruption affected thousands of daily commuters, especially office-goers traveling to business hubs in Airoli, Rabale, Ghansoli, and Turbhe areas that host several national and international companies. Trains were seen halted at Thane station, with massive crowds building up on platforms 9, 10, and 10A. Some passengers were even spotted walking along the railway tracks in frustration.

Women commuters reported difficulty navigating the overcrowded platforms, while many passengers expressed anger over the Central Railway’s handling of the situation. Several employees were unable to reach their workplaces on time, raising concerns about being penalized with late marks despite no fault of their own.

With no immediate rail alternatives, some passengers opted to travel to Navi Mumbai by road from the CIDCO area near Thane station.

This incident comes less than 24 hours after another railway mishap in Mumbai, intensifying criticism of the railway administration’s preparedness and response mechanisms. Regular commuters are demanding urgent upgrades and better crisis management on Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
