Thane: 18 Tourists Defrauded Of Rs 13 Lakh With Claim Of Dubai Tourism

Badlapur, 22nd February 2023: It has come to light that a tour company in Badlapur duped 18 tourists by claiming to take them to Dubai for tourism. 18 tourists have been cheated of Rs 13.15 lakh by taking travel money.

Director of Gugol Travels Company Ajay Awte, a resident of Baliram Society, Khadakpada, Kalyan, has filed a complaint at Khadakpada Police Station regarding this fraud. The police have registered a case against Ashish Thawle and Sapna Thawle, residents of Savita Sadan, Rameshwadi Church Road, Badlapur, directors of Arnica Tours Company.

Police said Deepak Wankhede goes on foreign tourism trips. He is a friend of the complainant Ajay Avate. A group of 18 citizens from Wankhede’s Kalyan area had requested to go to Dubai in October last year. As Wankhede was not willing to go on a tourist trip, he asked Ajay Awte, director of his Travels company in Kalyan, about Dubai tourism. Awte told Wankhede that a friend from Badlapur, Arnica Travels, runs the Dubai tour.

Awte told Thawle of Badlapur about the Dubai tourism of 18 people. Thawle admitted to taking a group of 18 people to Dubai for tourism. Last year, 8th December was fixed as the date. Awte acted as an intermediary for all the preparations for the Dubai flight tickets and visas of these 18 people and deposited the amount.

Even though the date of travel was near, Awte met Sapna Thawle at Badlapur as the passengers were not getting tickets. They were misleading Awte by giving false reasons. Finally, Thawle postponed the travel date by eight days, citing a minor reason. Even as the second travel date approached, the couple withheld the ticket and visa. It was noticed by Awte that they were wasting time by giving minor, false reasons. As the trip to Dubai was cancelled, the stranded couple did not respond despite repeated requests to refund the travel money. Awte has filed a complaint at Khadakpada police station as the Thawle couple cheated him.
