Mira Bhayandar, 23rd January 2024: In the aftermath of clashes during Ayodhya Ram temple celebrations, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation initiated a rapid response to dismantle illegal constructions in Mumbai’s Mira Road. The operation carried out under tight security measures, included the use of bulldozers escorted by a substantial police presence. The move followed prior warnings from Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about taking stern action against rioters.

Images circulating online depicted the enforcement team tearing down makeshift structures and stores along the pavement after serving prior notices for the removal of illegal constructions. The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, backed by a robust police force, executed the demolition swiftly.

Addressing the clashes that erupted on January 21, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the arrest of thirteen individuals in connection with a confrontation between two communities in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road. The clashes had prompted Fadnavis to issue stern warnings against those disrupting law and order.

In a separate incident on Monday evening in Thane district, a procession encountered a stone-pelting attack, resulting in injuries to both participants and police providing security. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized stringent measures against those causing disruptions, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to such actions in Maharashtra.

Detailed information on the Naya Nagar incident was swiftly collected, with efforts ongoing to identify additional suspects through CCTV footage. Fadnavis, in constant communication with the Mira-Bhayander Police Commissioner, reiterated the commitment to maintaining order. Despite police appeals to Mira Road residents to disregard rumours, investigations into the matter are still underway.
