Thane: Assistant Police Inspector Accused in Government Fraud Case, Demands Rs 10 Lakh Bribe

Thane, 29th March 2024: A case of government fraud has surfaced involving an individual who allegedly registered vehicles with the RTO of Arunachal Pradesh using counterfeit documents and later transferred the registrations to the Vasai Regional Transport Department. The accused, identified as Kailas Jaywant Tokle, an Assistant Police Inspector of Crime Branch Unit 1, Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate, stands accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakhs to aid the aforementioned individual.

The incident came to light on December 13, 2023, when a case was registered against Praveen Raut at the Virar Police Station following a complaint by Ujwal Bhavsar, a Motor Vehicle Inspector with the Regional Transport Office. The complaint alleged deceit against the government, with the RTO of Arunachal Pradesh registering vehicles based on forged documents and subsequently registering 34 vehicles at the Vasai Regional Transport Office using these falsified documents.

Concurrently, a parallel investigation into the matter was conducted by the Mira Bhayander Crime Branch 1 Kashmiri Unit, resulting in the arrest of Ramkailas Lalbahadur Yadav, a resident of Bhayander, who is currently in judicial custody. However, during the investigation, it is alleged that Assistant Police Inspector Kailas Tokale demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakhs from Yadav’s brother to facilitate bail and prepare related documents for the case.

The demand for the bribe was purportedly made within the Kashmiri unit itself, a fact confirmed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau Thane. Consequently, a case was registered against Kailas Tokale at the Kashimira Police Station on March 27, following a complaint lodged by the accused’s brother.
