Thane: Concrete Roads In Dombivli MIDC Crack Due To Lack Of Water

Thane, 20th February 2023: Concrete road works in Dombivli MIDC residential and industrial sections are progressing very slowly. The road is not watered for two to three days after concreting. After the road is dug, no work is done there for two months. The water pipes under the road are constantly being broken by the contractor’s workers. Residents are furious and have demanded a complete stop to the work if it is not done properly.
The quality of cement concrete works being done in haste in MIDC is poor. After concreting the road, it should be watered three to four times a day in such a way that it stays wet for 15 consecutive days. After laying roads in this area, water is not poured into the ditches on the roads for three days. Due to the hot sun, the new bare roads have started to crack, said the residents of MIDC.
After spending crores of rupees, concrete road works are being done in MIDC after 40 years. While they want these works to be of good quality, the residents, the working class working in the construction department in this area are shocked to see the quality of road construction in MIDC. Although the contractor is doing these works, as he has strong political backing, even if the citizens complain about this work, he is not taken into account. Residents said there was no official or supervisor at the workplace to answer their queries. As the roads are not watered, the concrete has dried up and turned white.
Water pipes leading to houses in MIDC have burst more than 20 times so far as the JBC drivers tirelessly dig up the roads during road works. It is affecting the residents through water scarcity. Buildings of many residents and motor roads within bungalow premises cannot be excavated by digging. Dr Shrikant Shinde has worked tirelessly to get funds of 110 crores approved by the government for the residential and industrial section of Dombivli MIDC for road work.
“Shinde should take the initiative and give suitable instructions to the contractor. Otherwise, MIDC, Municipalities and MMRDA controlling officers should pay attention to these roads, which have been built carelessly. The residents fear that poor-quality road construction will take place in this area. We tried contacting MIDC officials and contractors for more information. There was no response from them. The local Pramod Patil was contacted and the residents have a question as to who to seek justice from as there is no response from him,” residents said.
