Thane: Diwali Firecrackers Trigger Eight Fires in Thane, Prompting Swift Disaster Department Response

Thane, 14th November 2023: On the inaugural day of Diwali festivities, Thane witnessed a series of eight fires attributed to firecrackers, as reported by the Thane district’s disaster department. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of these incidents.

The first occurrence transpired around midnight, just before Diwali dawn when a bamboo shed temporarily erected in Waghbil’s Shiv Krupa Nagar caught fire due to tarpaulin and pavilion materials. Another incident involved a palm tree catching fire within the premises of a psychiatric hospital.

At approximately 9:00 pm in Parsik Nagar, a fire broke out in a garbage heap, followed by incidents on Brahmand Road, where both an open field of garbage and an electric cable of MSEDCL caught fire. Firefighters effectively brought the situation under control within half an hour.

Around 9:30 pm, a fire ignited in the pigeon net and other materials stored in the window of a house on the thirteenth floor of the Highland Garden building in Dhokali. A coconut tree in Rabodi’s Vrindavan Society also caught fire during the night.

The seventh incident occurred at 10:00 am in Wagle Estate, Ramnagar, involving a garbage fire. The eighth and final incident transpired at 3:30 am in Balkum Pada, Dadlani Park (Thane-W), where a tarpaulin on the shed of a Motor Garage caught fire.

Although these incidents were considered minor, the response from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell was swift, taking approximately half an hour to bring each fire under control. Officials are attributing the fires to firecrackers, underscoring the need for caution and adherence to safety guidelines during festive celebrations.
