Thane Transport Committee To Increase Electric Buses For City Fleet
Thane, 16th February 2023: The budget for this year, i.e. 2023-24, of the municipal transport activity will be presented by the administration in the meeting of the transport committee on Friday. In it, the emphasis has been placed on the purchase of eco-friendly electric buses from the funds of the central government and transport. Apart from this, it will also be proposed to fix the ticket prices of electric buses in Thane Transport Enterprise on the lines of Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporations, said municipal sources.
Last year, the Thane Municipal Transport Corporation presented a budget of Rs 620.90 crore for the financial year 2022-23. In that, the transport administration demanded a subsidy of Rs 460.54 crore from the municipal corporation. Due to the suspension of the bus services of the Transport Subcommittee during the Corona period, there was a big impact on the revenue collection of this activity. That is why so much subsidy was demanded. It was announced that 80 electric buses will be purchased from the funds received under Clean Air Initiative by the Central Government. Out of them, 11 buses have recently entered the fleet of the transport initiative. A similar announcement will be made in this year’s budget as well.
303 electric buses will be purchased in phases till 2026 from the funds received from the central government under the clean air initiative. Apart from this, it is also proposed to purchase such buses from the funds of the Transport Initiative. Therefore, this year’s budget will emphasize increasing the number of buses in the transport fleet. Apart from this, it will also be proposed to fix the ticket prices of electric buses in Thane Transport Enterprise on the lines of Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporations, said municipal sources.
