Thane: Workers Rescued After Being Stranded In 15-Foot-Deep Pit During Mahanagar Gas Line Repair At Ambarnath

Ambarnath, 7th September 2023: A routine repair operation on the Mahanagar gas line took a perilous turn today in Ambernath’s Forest Naka area as three labourers found themselves stranded in a 15-foot-deep pit. The incident unfolded near the Mahanagar gas station at Ambarnath.
Ambarnath gas station at Forest Naka is responsible for supplying Mahanagar gas to the entire city from this place. Therefore, today, a 15-foot-deep pit was dug to repair the main Mahanagar gas line coming to this station.
The incident began when workers were excavating the pit in the course of repairing the main Mahanagar gas line feeding the station. While digging, a heap of soil situated above the road suddenly gave way, burying three labourers up to their waists beneath the cascading soil. Adding to the danger, large boulders tumbled into the pit alongside the soil, further complicating the rescue efforts.
The workers, identified as Suresh More, Kalichandra, and Laxman Yamkar, found themselves trapped as the soil engulfed them. In a swift response, the fire brigade was called to the scene, and the workers have since been evacuated safely.
JCB equipment was brought in to clear the massive boulders that had fallen into the pit, and the soil pile was removed. Despite the challenging conditions, the rescuers managed to safely extract all three labourers from the pit.
