Three COVID-19 Cases Reported in Panvel; Civic Body Sets Up Isolation Wards

Panvel, 27th May 2025: Three new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) area, prompting the civic administration to go on high alert. In response, PMC has begun preparations to set up 200 isolation beds across three hospitals, along with additional emergency facilities.

According to officials, a 59-year-old woman from Sector 17 in Roadpali has tested positive and is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital. Two other patients from Kharghar — a 51-year-old woman from Sector 3, admitted to MGM Hospital in CBD Belapur, and a 74-year-old man from Sector 14, also being treated at Apollo — have also tested positive. All three patients are reported to be in stable condition, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, BMC.

Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale chaired an emergency meeting on Sunday, directing health officials and departments to remain on standby. “Immediate action is being taken to tackle the situation. We are ramping up isolation facilities and intensifying surveillance,” Chitale stated.

As part of the preparedness, PMC is setting up a 100-bed isolation ward at Nimisha Hospital of YMT Medical College in Kharghar, and a six-bed intensive care unit at the municipal hospital in Kalamboli. Additionally, 50 beds each will be reserved at Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Sub-District Hospital in Panvel city and MGM Hospital in Kamothe.

A dedicated COVID-19 control room is also being established to monitor the situation and coordinate emergency response.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of the Health Department, Vaibhav Vidhate, and all senior officers and staff from the health and sanitation departments.

Civic officials have appealed to the public to remain calm but vigilant, urging residents to follow COVID-19 protocols and report any symptoms to the nearest health facility.
