Traffic Chaos on Mumbai Pune Expressway: Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway Faces Major Congestion from Bhor Ghat to Lonavala

Lonavala, 8th March 2024: In the early hours of today, significant traffic congestion occurred on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway (Mumbai Pune Expressway) from Bhor Ghat to Lonavala, disrupting normal traffic flow. Reports indicate a lack of lane discipline during this period, even involving important vehicles such as ambulances and cars of a minister.

The congestion led to challenges for the traffic police, who had to navigate the situation to alleviate the traffic jam. To manage the situation, the minister’s cars were redirected in the opposite direction, utilizing the old Mumbai-Pune highway route.

The congestion was exacerbated by heavy vehicles left on the road overnight, contributing to the extensive traffic disruption. Despite a toll-free number available for contacting the Bhor Ghat Highway Police Control Room, there were reported difficulties in reaching them during the incident. The Highway Police’s purported oversight of the causes of traffic jams has been criticized, resulting in inconvenience for drivers who had to endure the prolonged traffic situation on the expressway at night.
