Uttar Pradesh: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and brother shot dead by assailants posing as journalists

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), 15th April 2023: Gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother, former MLA Ashraf Ahmed, were fatally shot by three assailants who posed as journalists, despite being under heavy police custody, while being taken for a medical examination at Motilal Nehru Medical College. The police have arrested all three attackers.

According to reports, as soon as the police exited with both brothers after their medical examination, media personnel attempted to interview Atiq and Ashraf. At that moment, one of the attackers stepped forward and shot Atiq in the head with a revolver, while the second assailant fired at Ashraf’s waist. More than 30 rounds of gunfire were reportedly exchanged.

After killing both brothers, the assailants raised their hands and surrendered to the police. One pistol, cartridges, and a media ID were discovered at the crime scene.
