Mumbai’s KEM Hospital Faces Backlash After Patient Records Used for Paper Plates
Mumbai, 6th July 2024: In Mumbai, the administration of King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, which is run by the civic body, has issued show-cause notices to six employees following the circulation of a video depicting paper plates made from what appeared to be patient records, an official reported on Saturday.
Former mayor Kishori Pednekar used ‘X’ to share a video showing paper plates bearing the hospital’s name, patient names, and medical procedures.
KEM Hospital’s Dean, Dr. Sangeeta Ravat, clarified that the plates were not made from patient reports. “These were old folders of CT scans that were given to scrap dealers to be recycled. The oversight was that these scrap papers were not shredded before disposal,” Dr. Ravat explained.
She confirmed that show-cause notices have been issued to the six employees responsible for this incident.
Responding to the situation, Kishori Pednekar criticized the administration’s negligence in her social media post.
