Mumbai, 12th July 2024: On Friday, IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory urging passengers to verify their flight status due to air traffic congestion in Mumbai caused by heavy rainfall. The airline posted on X, “Flights are affected due to heavy rains and air traffic congestion in Mumbai. Please check your flight status and have a safe journey!”

The airline noted a significant rise in flight delays, impacting more passengers than usual. Once recognized for its punctuality, IndiGo is currently facing challenges with delayed departures.

Mumbai is experiencing continued heavy rainfall, with forecasts predicting the rain to persist through Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city and warned of intense rainfall in isolated areas. Between 8:30 am on July 11 and 8:30 am on July 12, Colaba recorded 86 mm of rain, and Santa Cruz saw 115.8 mm. The IMD has also extended the orange alert to Central Maharashtra and the Konkan region.

Earlier this week, intense rainfall led to severe waterlogging and flooding at suburban railway stations, with 170 mm of rain falling in just three hours. This has resulted in the closure of schools and colleges and the adjournment of the legislative assembly session. With moderate to heavy rains expected until July 15, the Shinde government’s disaster management control room is overseeing the management of civic services.
