Mumbai: Congress Plans Action Against MLAs Who Defied Party Whip: Details to Emerge in Two Days

Mumbai, 20th July 2024: Mumbai: As Congress leaders hint at potential actions against MLAs who defied the party whip and engaged in cross-voting, concrete measures are expected to become clear in the next two days. Meanwhile, criticism has already surfaced, with Bandra East MLA Zeeshan Siddique voicing strong opposition to the move.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal addressed the media on Friday, revealing that steps have been taken against those who cross-voted in the state council elections, with further details to be disclosed shortly. His comments came after a party meeting at the Garware Club in Churchgate, where the focus was on evaluating the current political landscape and preparing for the upcoming state assembly elections. Venugopal stressed that any form of indiscipline within the party would no longer be tolerated.

In response, Zeeshan Siddique, the son of former minister of state Baba Siddique, commented that if the Congress party were to allocate the Bandra East seat to Shiv Sena, it would result in a scenario similar to the Sangli Lok Sabha elections, where Congress’s Vishal Patil went against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Shiv Sena UBT nominee and emerged victorious.

On the subject of the MVA alliance, Venugopal stated that the alliance partners have agreed to contest elections jointly to unseat the alleged corrupt Mahayuti government.

The Congress is ramping up its preparations to secure a significant number of seats in the forthcoming state elections. The strategy meeting was attended by key figures including state party in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, MPCC chief Nana Patole, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, opposition leader in the State Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, and all Maharashtra MPs and MLAs.

“It is the Congress party’s objective to remove the Mahayuti government from power,” Venugopal concluded.
