Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train to Be Completed by 2028, CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, 29th April 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will be completed by 2028, with a major station planned near Badhavan Port in Palghar district.
Speaking at the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor Summit 2025, Fadnavis said that the project, stalled for over two years under the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government, is now progressing rapidly. He questioned who would bear the interest burden caused by the delay, noting that work resumed at full pace after his government returned to power.
Fadnavis outlined several key infrastructure projects in the state, including coastal roads, Atal Setu, metro lines, ports, airports, and bullet trains, stating they are expected to draw investments of up to $50 million.
He also shared that Badhavan Port will be larger than JNPT and connected to Nashik and the Samruddhi Mahamarg through an access-controlled highway. A new international airport, along with a proposed “Fourth Mumbai” development featuring Edu City, Health City, and Innovation City, is also planned in the region.
On water management, Fadnavis said the river-linking project will help make Marathwada drought-free by diverting water from Kolhapur, Sangli, and the Western Ghats to Ujni Dam.
Additional projects include a Nagpur-Goa highway, cargo hubs at Nagpur and Pune, and solar power initiatives aiming to generate 16,000 MW for agriculture. Maharashtra currently has 21% solar capacity, with a target of 52% by 2030, he added.
Fadnavis emphasized that Maharashtra is becoming a national leader in electric vehicles and public transport modernization.
