Maharashtra TET 2026 Paper Leak: Police Uncover How Question Papers Were Smuggled Out
Mumbai, 4th August 2026: A major breakthrough has emerged in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 paper leak investigation, with police revealing that the leaked question papers were allegedly stolen from a dustbin at the printing press where the exam papers were produced.
According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, defective copies of the TET question papers, which had been discarded due to printing errors and were meant for destruction, were secretly taken out by employees of the printing press. Investigators believe the stolen papers eventually reached the masterminds behind the paper leak racket.
The investigation found that workers at the Agra-based printing press exploited serious security lapses in handling confidential examination material. Police suspect that employees were lured with financial incentives and promises of housing to smuggle the defective papers out of the facility. One of the accused allegedly concealed the papers inside his shoes before taking them outside the premises.
The TET paper leak came to light after Bhiwandi Police received information that a group was attempting to sell the leaked question papers before the examination. Acting on the tip-off, police arrested three people and subsequently uncovered a wider interstate network involved in leaking examination papers and facilitating malpractice for candidates.
Investigators have also revealed that the accused were allegedly planning to target another recruitment examination after the TET paper leak. During interrogation, police found indications that the Assistant Professor recruitment examination could have been their next target, prompting authorities to tighten security around upcoming competitive exams.
The SIT has earlier flagged major security lapses at the printing press, stating that inadequate monitoring and poor disposal procedures for confidential material made the leak possible. The probe is also examining whether any government officials or other insiders played a role in facilitating the racket.
The Maharashtra TET 2026 examination was postponed following the paper leak, and the investigation has so far resulted in multiple arrests across different states. Police say further questioning of the accused is underway to identify all those involved in the operation and determine whether any other examinations may have been compromised.
