Mumbai: One-Year-Old Kidnapped After Family Dispute, Rescued Within Hours in Dombivli
Dombivli, 4th August 2026: A one-year-old child who was allegedly abducted following a family dispute was rescued safely within hours after being found crying inside a parked autorickshaw near Kopar Bridge in Dombivli. Prompt police action and the circulation of the child’s details on social media helped reunite the toddler with his mother.
According to police, the incident began on the morning of August 2 in Mumbai’s Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Kurla, where Aman Sakat (25) allegedly took away his maternal uncle’s one-year-old son after an argument with the child’s father.
When family members realised the child was missing, they immediately alerted the mother, following which a kidnapping complaint was registered at Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police Station.
Soon after the complaint was lodged, Kurla police circulated the child’s photograph and details through WhatsApp groups and social media platforms to aid the search.
Later that afternoon, local residents noticed a toddler crying inside a parked autorickshaw near the Kopar Bridge police outpost in Dombivli and informed the Vishnunagar Police. Officers rushed to the spot, rescued the child, and began efforts to establish the child’s identity.
After matching the child’s photograph with the missing person alert circulated by Kurla police, authorities confirmed that the toddler was the missing child from Vinoba Bhave Nagar. Vishnunagar Police then contacted Kurla police, verified the mother’s identity, and handed over the child to her after completing the required legal formalities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused allegedly abducted the child out of anger following a dispute with his maternal uncle. Police also stated that the suspect is hearing and speech impaired.
A search has been launched to trace the accused, while further investigation is being carried out by Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police.
Police said the swift dissemination of the child’s information through social media and coordinated action between the two police units played a crucial role in locating the toddler safely within a few hours.
