Mumbai Teen Drowns at Juhu Beach, Declared Dead at Hospital

Mumbai, 6th June 2026 : A 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life after drowning in the sea near Juhu Chowpatty on Friday evening. The incident took place near the JW Marriott Hotel in Juhu West, according to officials.

The deceased has been identified as Sarfaraz Khan. Authorities said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade received information about the incident at around 7:31 pm. Following the alert, emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel, lifeguards, local police officers, and a 108 ambulance service, rushed to the location and immediately launched a rescue operation.

After an extensive search, Sarfaraz was pulled out of the water by fire brigade personnel and lifeguards. He was promptly taken to Cooper Hospital for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead upon arrival.

Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning are yet to be determined. Police have initiated an investigation and are carrying out the necessary legal procedures related to the case.

The incident has once again raised concerns about safety at Mumbai’s beaches, especially during the monsoon season when strong waves, high tides, and unpredictable sea currents increase the risk of accidents. Civic authorities have repeatedly appealed to visitors to follow safety guidelines and avoid entering the sea during hazardous conditions.
