Man Stabbed Inside Mumbai Local Train After Seat Dispute; Two Arrested
Mumbai, 13 th June 2026 : A 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed inside a moving Mumbai local train following an argument over a seat in the luggage compartment. The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two accused within 12 hours of the incident, while efforts are underway to trace a third suspect.
The victim, identified as Satish Kumar Bolamani Pathak (26), a resident of Masjid Bunder in Mumbai, sustained serious injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to police, the incident took place on Thursday morning aboard a local train travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Khopoli.
Officials said the train had crossed Vangani railway station when an argument broke out between Pathak and a group of youths over occupying a seat in the luggage compartment.
The verbal altercation soon escalated into a violent confrontation. During the scuffle, the accused allegedly assaulted Pathak and one of them stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.
Co-passengers alerted railway authorities following the incident, after which the injured man was rushed for medical treatment.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off and using available leads, the Karjat Government Railway Police launched an investigation and arrested two accused within 12 hours of the attack.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Imran Idris Ansari (18), a resident of Neral, and Karan Kanhaiyalal Agrawal (22), a resident of Shelu.
Police said a search operation is underway to apprehend another accused allegedly involved in the attack.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress to determine the exact sequence of events and the role played by each of the accused.
The incident has once again raised concerns over passenger safety in Mumbai’s overcrowded suburban railway network, often referred to as the city’s lifeline, where minor disputes occasionally escalate into serious acts of violence.
Police have appealed to commuters to remain calm during altercations and immediately alert railway authorities in case of emergencies.
