Reliance Succession Nears Completion as Mukesh Ambani Reflects on Dhirubhai’s Leadership

Mumbai, 16th July 2026: Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has said that the leadership philosophy he inherited from his father, Dhirubhai Ambani, is now shaping the company’s succession plan as responsibilities are gradually being transferred to the next generation.

Speaking about the transition, Ambani said the process of handing over key operational responsibilities to his children is in its final phase. He emphasised that the same values of trust, autonomy and entrepreneurship that guided his own journey are now being passed on to the next generation of Reliance leaders.

Reflecting on an interview he gave in 2008, Ambani recalled that one of the greatest advantages he received from his father was being treated as a “first-generation entrepreneur” despite joining the family business. Rather than asking him to simply manage an existing enterprise, Dhirubhai Ambani gave him the freedom to build new businesses, make independent decisions and take calculated risks.

Ambani said this approach helped him develop the confidence and problem-solving abilities that later enabled Reliance to expand beyond its traditional energy and petrochemicals business into sectors such as telecommunications, retail and digital services.

He added that Reliance now encourages the same culture among its young leadership team. His children and other senior executives are given the freedom to express independent views, challenge existing ideas and drive innovation to keep the company future-ready.

The succession plan gained momentum after Ambani announced at Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting that the transfer of operational responsibilities to the next generation was nearing completion.

Under Mukesh Ambani’s leadership, Reliance Industries has grown into one of India’s largest private-sector conglomerates, with businesses spanning energy, petrochemicals, retail, telecommunications and digital services. The company continues to focus on ensuring a smooth leadership transition while maintaining its long-term growth strategy.
