Mumbai: One Killed, Seven Injured After BEST Bus Crash at Mankhurd

Mumbai, 20th July 2026: A 65-year-old man was killed and seven others, including a BEST bus driver, conductor, and five passengers, were injured after a BEST bus crashed into a road divider on the Sion Panvel Highway in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area on Monday morning.

According to officials, the accident occurred at around 9:14 a.m. near Vishwakarma Hospital. The Route No. 501 BEST bus was travelling along the Sion Panvel Highway when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the divider.

The deceased has been identified as Bhaskar Raosaheb Pande (65), who was standing near the divider while attempting to cross the highway. He sustained severe injuries after being struck by the bus. Pande was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

The injured include bus driver Banwari Shriram Prasad Sharma (51) and conductor Vaibhav Waghmare (41). Both are undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Five passengers Shivmangal Maity (42), Ganesh Patel (24), Lata Waghela (43), Rajesh Varugamina (35), and Ankita Jadhav (22) were admitted to a hospital in Govandi. They are receiving treatment in the casualty ward, while authorities are awaiting detailed medical updates on their condition.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. It is yet to be established whether the driver lost control due to a mechanical failure, driver fatigue, or any other reason. The Mankhurd Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
