Mumbai: Nalasopara Depot Gets 5 New MSRTC Buses Ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi

Mumbai, 23nd July 2026: In a major boost to public transportation ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi, the Nalasopara MSRTC depot has received five new State Transport (ST) buses, providing relief to thousands of passengers travelling from the Vasai-Virar region to Konkan and other parts of Maharashtra.

The addition of the new buses comes after sustained efforts by Nalasopara MLA Rajan Naik, who had repeatedly urged the Maharashtra government to strengthen the depot’s ageing fleet. The depot has long faced complaints from commuters due to old and frequently malfunctioning buses, causing inconvenience to daily passengers.

Earlier, the state government had sanctioned 10 new buses in two phases against the MLA’s demand for 20 buses. With a large number of devotees expected to travel to Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage, Rajan Naik once again requested the government to release the remaining buses on priority.

Responding to the demand, the state government has now allocated five additional buses to the Nalasopara depot. The buses were formally flagged off and inducted into service on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ birthday, coinciding with the Ashadhi Ekadashi festivities.

Expressing gratitude, MLA Rajan Naik thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik for approving the new buses. He also expressed confidence that the remaining five buses would be allotted to the depot in the near future.

The induction ceremony was attended by MLA Rajan Naik, District General Secretary Manoj Barot, corporator Jayprakash Waze, City Vice-President Jitendra Naik, Depot Manager Navneet Gavit, Station Head Nikhil Sawale, Workshop Superintendent Abhishek Bat, Assistant Traffic Inspector Anil Patil, along with drivers, conductors and other MSRTC staff.
