Mumbai: Woman Delivers Baby in Auto-Rickshaw After Pothole Ridden Roads Delay Hospital Journey in Bhiwandi
Bhiwandi, 6th August 2026: A pregnant woman delivered a baby boy inside an auto-rickshaw after severe road conditions delayed her journey to the hospital in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi, highlighting the city’s worsening pothole crisis.
The incident took place when Varsha Kamlesh Yadav, a resident of Ajmernagar in Bhiwandi, went into labour. Her family rushed her towards the Bhiwandi Sub-District Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. However, the vehicle’s movement was significantly slowed by large potholes and damaged roads across the city.
According to the family, a journey that normally takes 5 to 10 minutes stretched to 30 to 45 minutes due to the poor condition of the roads.
As the labour pains intensified because of the repeated jolts caused by the potholes, Varsha delivered a healthy baby boy inside the auto-rickshaw near the Kalyan Naka area before reaching the hospital.
She and the newborn were immediately shifted to Bhiwandi Sub-District Hospital, where doctors confirmed that both mother and child are in stable condition.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the deteriorating condition of roads in Bhiwandi city and surrounding areas, with residents raising concerns over public safety and the urgent need for road repairs.
