Mumbai: 56-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Run Over by BEST Contract Bus at Mulund Check Naka
Mumbai, 8th August 2026: A 56-year-old woman died after being knocked down and run over by a contracted BEST bus at Mulund Check Naka on Friday afternoon. The incident took place near the traffic signal at around 2:30 pm on August 7.
The deceased has been identified as Jayashree Bhanaji Parmar (56).
According to the police, the BEST contract bus, operated by Mateshwari Travels and running on route C-512/35, was travelling from Nerul station towards Mulund Check Naka. The bus had stopped at the signal as the traffic light was red.
At the same time, Parmar was crossing the road. When the signal turned green, the driver, Ravi Bhagwant Bhoise (33), moved the bus forward. The woman reportedly came into contact with the front-right corner of the bus and fell onto the road.
The bus’s front-right wheel then ran over her head, causing critical injuries.
Following the accident, bus conductor Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh (26) immediately informed the police. The Mulund Police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured woman to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund. However, doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Driver, Conductor Taken Into Custody
The Mulund Police have taken the bus driver and conductor into custody. Police are in the process of registering a case and conducting further investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Officials from BEST and Mateshwari Travels also reached the police station following the incident.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and the movement of the bus and pedestrian at the traffic signal. Further investigation is underway.
