Mumbai Accident: 16-Year-Old Drives Car Into Two Women; One Killed, Another Critically Injured

Nalasopara, 21st August 2026: A tragic road accident took place in Nalasopara East on Wednesday evening after a car allegedly being driven at high speed by a 16-year-old boy hit two women pedestrians. One woman died during treatment, while the other sustained serious injuries.

The accident occurred at around 4:45 pm in the Datt Nagar area of Nalasopara East. The two women, identified as Pragati More (36) and Shreya Misal (32), were returning home from work when they were hit by a grey Maruti Eeco (MH 48 CT 6433).

Both women were seriously injured in the collision. Local residents immediately rushed them to Rakia Hospital in Nagindas Pada for treatment. However, Shreya Misal succumbed to her injuries during treatment. She had sustained serious injuries to her head, back, waist and knees. Pragati More remains critically injured and is undergoing treatment.

Women Were Returning Home From Work

Pragati More and Shreya Misal were residents of Nagindas Pada and worked as domestic workers. On Wednesday morning, they had travelled to Vasai for work. After returning by train and getting down at Nalasopara railway station, they were walking home when the accident occurred.

Minor Driver Detained

After receiving information about the accident, Tulinj Police detained the 16-year-old boy allegedly driving the car.

According to police, the vehicle was owned by Rajesh Shah, while Mahesh Naik allegedly allowed the minor to drive the vehicle. A case has been registered against the vehicle owner and the person who allegedly permitted the minor to drive.

Police have registered a case under Sections 106(1), 125(b), 281 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Sections 184, 181(4) and 180.

Liquor Bottles Allegedly Found in Car

Local residents have claimed that liquor bottles were found inside the vehicle following the accident. Police are investigating the claim and are also examining the circumstances leading to the crash.

The investigation will establish how the minor obtained access to the vehicle, whether excessive speed was involved and whether the presence of liquor bottles had any connection with the accident.

The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving, allowing minors to operate vehicles and the safety of pedestrians on roads in the Nalasopara area.
